Jamie Moncrief
A Wilmington native since 1969, Jamie
Moncrief joined the UNCW Marketing and Communications staff in March
2005 as the university's first photographer. He is responsible for
documenting the people and events for the university's multiple
magazines and websites.
Jamie attended UNC Wilmington and UNC Chapel
Hill and received his journalism degree in 1985. He was a
photographer and photo editor for both of his college newspapers,
The UNCW Seahawk and The Daily Tar Heel. Upon graduation, Jamie
began his photojournalism career with the Wilmington Star-News where
he worked as a photojournalist for 14 years and then as the
newspaper's photo editor for six years.
As a photographer and editor at the
Star-News, he coordinated a staff of six photojournalists as they
documented daily life in southeastern North Carolina. His work for
the New York Times Regional Newsgroup included every ACC and CAA
basketball tournament for two decades, more than 30 NASCAR races,
two national presidential conventions as well as several overseas
assignments including the political uprising of Haiti in 1989. He
has also documented nearly hurricane strike along the east coast
between 1984 and 2006. His photography has appeared in newspapers
around the world, as well as Time, Newsweek, US News and World
Report, Entertainment Weekly, Air & Space Magazine, Stars & Stripes
and Life Magazine.
